    Ali, Chris and I (Balcairn Hall) are in Myanmar at present and were privileged to see the lotus fabric weavers of Inle Lake, I believe the only place in the world this is done. You would have been fascinated , even if is fabric rather than basketry the use of the plant is really interesting. We are looking forward to listening to Country Life when we get somewhere where the wifi is more dependable.

    I have heard about fabric being made with lotus plants and the lotus fabric weaving sounds fascinating. What part of the plant is used for this? And yes, you’re right, I would love to see it. Do you have any photos you could share?

    Thanks for your interest in my books. As well as my book Weaving Flowers from New Zealand Flax, I also have a booklet called Weaving a large container from New Zealand Flax.
